Clary Sage smells a bit like grass to me and is steam distilled from the flowering plant. Clary Sage seeds were historically blended with water to create a mucus-y substance that was used to wash out the eyes after something got in them. This Clary Sage gel was also used to help remove foreign objects from the skin (like slivers).
Usage + Recipes
Clary Sage is best used aromatically and topically (when used topically, be sure to dilute 50/50 with a carrier oil). It can be used in your nightly diffuser routine to help get you to sleep (but beware - it may enhance your dreams!), can help calm and lessen stress, and help support proper circulation. For ladies, Clary Sage may be particularly helpful in reducing emotional swings due to hormones and may reduce cramps/discomfort when Aunt Rose comes to visit.
- Moodiness Relief: use 10ml roller; add 10 drops Clary Sage, 10 drops Lavender, fill with carrier oil and roll on back of neck and forearms to ease monthly moodiness ;)
