Wintergreen is a sweet woodsy, kinda minty scented essential oil. The oil is steamed distilled from the Wintergreen plant's leaves and bark. I love Wintergreen because it's GREAT for post-workout recovery. Hundreds of years ago, Wintergreen leaves were chewed by Native Americans when they needed to run long distances to help increase their respiratory capacity. Wintergreen leaves also played a part during the Revolutionary War: there was a shortage of tea from England (you know, the country that George Washington was fighting against) and Wintergreen was used in place of black tea.
Usage + Recipes
As you can imagine from the descriptions above, Wintergreen is great for supporting a healthy respiratory system. It can also soothe occasional sore muscles post-workout (it's in my favorite post-workout muscle cream - recipe below). When applied topically, Wintergreen should be diluted 50/50 with a carrier oil. In addition to the fitness uses for Wintergreen, it also supports healthy liver function, promotes proper digestion (expels excess gas), and helps promote positive self-image and self-acceptance. (Who couldn't uses more of that?)
