Craig and I recently got back from a whirlwind climbing weekend in Colorado. Along with a couple other friends, we climbed at Poudre Canyon, the Flat Irons (I didn't climb there - no thank you!), Boulder Canyon, and Horsetooth Reservoir. We had a great time and I LOVED all the spectacular views!
The climbing, company and weather were all terrific but having to deal with bugs wasn't. Granted, the bugs could have been WAY WORSE but I still hate getting bug bites. I decided to try my DIY hand at making some homemade 'Bugger Off' spray and test it in Colorado - I had NO idea if it was actually going to work or not.
I used a 4oz glass spray bottle and added 5 drops Citronella, 4 drops each of Peppermint, Lavender, Purification, and Vetiver, and topped the bottle off with witch hazel.
Not only did this work (YAY!) but it also smelled WAY better than store-bought spray, didn't sting my cuts and scrapes at all (and I had a fair few from climbing...I'm none too graceful), and cooled me off when bouldering in 85+ degree heat.
The Peppermint, Lavender, and Purification essential oils all come in Young Living's Premium Starter Kit. If you're interested in learning more about these oils or want to get some of your own, leave a comment below or shoot me an email - firstname.lastname@example.org.
