Melaleuca alternifolia, more commonly known as Tea Tree, is an oil that is steam distilled from the plant leaves. The primary benefits of Tea Tree oil include helping maintain healthy looking hair and scalp, reduce the appearance of blemishes, and for my rock climbing friends, helps dry out your palms so you don't have to chalk up as much so you can CRUSH.
Usage + Recipes
Tea Tree poultices are used around the world by indigenous peoples to help treat sore throats, coughs, and skin ailments. As an essential oil, I use Tea Tree in three of my skin care DIY items:
- Breakout Fighter - when I'm stressed to the max and my face decides to revert to being a teenager.
- Bath/Shower Gel - although this recipe used different EOs, Tea Tree could easily replace one of the noted oils. Or you could make your own combo!
- Face Moisturizer - because this recipe also calls for two citrus oils, just be careful about using this on days that you'll be out in the sun a lot. Citrus oils are photosensitive, meaning they amplify the effects of the sun's rays on your skin (aka - you're gonna get burned).
